Two more COVID-19 cases in Iron County
Local health officials Sunday reported two new COVID-19 positives in Iron County.
The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department had no additional information on the new cases, which brings Iron County’s total to 20, with 10 considered still active, nine recovered and one death.
According to the Michigan COVID-19 data site, the Upper Peninsula this weekend had 13 new positives recorded in Menominee County, 10 more in Marquette County, four more in Ontonagon County, three more in Iron County and one each in Gogebic, Houghton, Keweenaw and Dickinson counties; the Dickinson case had been posted Thursday on the DIDHD’s Facebook page. The state’s total for Iron County exceeds what the DIDHD lists for the county.
Across the border in Wisconsin, that state’s COVID-19 data site showed 16 more positives in Marinette County, which has endured nearly 500 cases; five more cases in Vilas County; four more in Florence County, though state figures still don’t match the 16 county health officials posted Friday; two more in Iron County; and one in Forest County.
For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Sunday had Keweenaw County with three confirmed cases and one probable; Luce County, four confirmed cases; Baraga County, five confirmed cases; Schoolcraft County, 12 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 15 confirmed and two probable; Mackinac County, 22 confirmed cases and five probable; Iron County, 23 confirmed cases and one death; Ontonagon County, 24 confirmed and two probable; Chippewa County, 31 confirmed cases and 13 probable; Houghton County, 46 confirmed cases and seven probable; Dickinson County, 59 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 89 confirmed cases, 25 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 125 confirmed cases, 10 probable and a death; Menominee County, 157 confirmed cases and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 180 confirmed cases, 16 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.
Using state figures Sunday, the Upper Peninsula has had 797 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.
The MDHHS reported 1,015 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Saturday and 565 on Sunday for a total of 92,720 to date. The state added 18 new deaths Saturday — including 14 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — and six new deaths Sunday for a total of 6,324.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Sunday had Marinette County with 495 cases and five deaths; Iron County 80 cases and one death; Vilas County 74 cases; Forest County 60 cases and four deaths; and Florence County 15 cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies. Vilas County, for example, on Friday lists 77 positives, three more than the state figures.
Wisconsin recorded 829 new cases Saturday and 685 new cases Sunday for a total of 65,741 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had 13 new COVID-19 deaths Saturday and one new death Sunday to reach 1,039 to date.
According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Sunday has had 59 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with 27 recovered, two deaths and 30 cases still active. Iron County has had 22 positives, with nine recovered, one death and 12 still active.
Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Friday showed 18 cases from Dickinson County and 18 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 2,720 people for COVID-19, with 36 positive, 2,617 negative and 67 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
