EEE found in Forest County

CRANDON, Wis. — A horse in Forest County has tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis, a mosquito-borne disease that also can infect humans.

This follows two human EEE cases reported in Wisconsin this year, in Eau Claire and Chippewa counties, according to the Forest County Health Department.

EEE virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes acquire the virus by feeding on infected birds. Residents are advised to protect themselves against mosquito bites.
