State shows 38 new virus positives in Dickinson County

State health data indicates Dickinson County has added another 38 confirmed COVID-19 positives as of Saturday.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday listed Dickinson County with 738 confirmed cases. Friday, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department had Dickinson County with 700 confirmed cases and 27 probable cases, with 209 recovered, 20 deaths and 498 cases still active.

The DIDHD did not update its figures over the weekend. The department Friday had 436 confirmed cases and 33 probables in Iron County, with 246 recovered, 23 deaths and 200 cases still active.

The MDHHS data site Saturday indicated 236 new positives in the Upper Peninsula: 63 in Delta County; 48 in Marquette County; 38 in Dickinson County; 17 in Menominee County; 12 in Gogebic County; 10 in Iron County; nine in Houghton, Baraga and Schoolcraft counties; eight in Ontonagon County; four in Chippewa and Mackinac counties; three in Luce County; and two in Keweenaw County. The state also recorded two new virus-related deaths in Delta County, and one new in Iron — the DIDHD reported this death Friday — and Marquette counties, along with Ontonagon County’s first death.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS on Saturday had Keweenaw County with 21 confirmed cases and two probable; Luce County, 57 confirmed cases and 21 probable, plus one probable death; Alger County, 91 confirmed, 30 probable and one death; Schoolcraft County, 95 confirmed cases and seven probable, plus one probable death; Chippewa County, 101 confirmed cases and 86 probable; Baraga County, 105 confirmed cases, 20 probable and four deaths; Ontonagon County, 110 confirmed, 17 probable and one death; Mackinac County, 135 confirmed cases and 36 probable; Gogebic County, 329 confirmed cases and 133 probable, three confirmed deaths and eight probable deaths; Iron County, 444 confirmed cases and 31 probable, 23 confirmed deaths and three probable; Menominee County, 691 confirmed cases, 85 probable and six deaths; Dickinson County, 738 confirmed cases and 22 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and one probable; Houghton County, 822 confirmed cases, 164 probable, eight confirmed deaths and one probable; Marquette County, 1,089 confirmed cases, 156 probable and 16 deaths; and Delta County, 1,244 confirmed cases and 153 probable, 30 confirmed deaths and eight probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state figures Saturday, the Upper Peninsula has had 6,072 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 112 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 3,792 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Saturday for a total of 178,180 to date. The state added 31 new deaths Saturday — including 20 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — for a total of 7,340.

The state no longer updates figures on Sundays.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site for the weekend had 107 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Marinette County, 44 in Vilas County, 11 in Forest County, nine in Florence County and eight in Iron County. The state also showed two new deaths in Marinette County and one new in Florence County, although that could not be immediately confirmed with the Florence County Health Department.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Sunday had Marinette County with 1,915 confirmed cases, 135 probable cases and 16 deaths; Vilas County, 656 confirmed, 21 probable and seven deaths; Forest County, 505 confirmed, 19 probable and 11 deaths; Florence County, 223 confirmed, 12 probable and eight deaths; and Iron County, 216 confirmed, 44 probable and four deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin had 5,278 new positives Saturday — a new single-day record for the state — and 3,493 Sunday for a total of 228,863. The state added 59 new COVID-19 deaths Saturday and 16 Sunday to reach 2,047.
