FLORENCE, Wis. — A couple who recently relocated from Alaska has brought a little bit of northern lights to Florence for the Christmas season.
Steve Johnson and Jennifer Joki have filled their new property at 5003 U.S. 2 with displays illuminated with figures and thousands of lights.
The couple have roughly 30 different displays, though not all can be set up due to limited space. Yet Joki said it’s more than they’ve done in the past.
“This is the first time we’ve had a big enough lot to get almost all of it out,” she said.
They moved from the Anchorage area to Florence in October, after Johnson semi-retired. He’s here permanently and she works remotely out of the new home when she can.

“It just brings Christmas back in the house in kind of a fun way,” Joki said of the display.
Johnson handled most of the assembly work, even using a computer program to sync the lights to music that can be heard by dialing to 95.9 FM.
They built their collection over the six years they’ve been together, adding to it each year. Her favorite piece, for example, is the 11-foot reindeer that’s new to the display.
She also likes the crystal arch and trees but didn’t want to put them out until they could be secured well enough to not get damaged.
One hazard, however, is less likely here: Moose wandering through the lights.

“You’d watch them saying, ‘No rubbing, no rubbing,'” Joki said.
