Five new virus deaths in Dickinson-Iron district
Local health officials Monday reported three new COVID-19-related deaths in Dickinson County and two more in Iron County since late last week.
But the number of recovered cases in both counties exceeded the number of new positives, according to an update the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted on Facebook.
Dickinson County had 38 new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Friday, eight probable cases and 91 recovered cases, along with the three deaths. Iron County had eight new positives, one new probable case, 32 recovered cases and the two new deaths.
The DIDHD on Monday had Dickinson County at 1,792 confirmed positives and 120 probable cases, with 905 recovered, 54 deaths and 953 cases still active. Iron County has had 719 confirmed cases and 40 probables, with 512 recovered, 33 deaths and 214 cases still active, according to the DIDHD.
Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Monday listed 148 more confirmed positives since its last update Saturday: 53 in Marquette County; 18 each in Dickinson and Houghton counties; 16 in Delta County; 13 in Menominee County; seven in Gogebic County; four in Chippewa, Schoolcraft and Mackinac counties; three in Iron and Baraga counties; and two in Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Alger counties; the state also reduced Luce County’s count by one. Two new deaths were recorded in Marquette County and one new in Delta County, plus Houghton County’s toll was lowered by one.
In total for the U.P., the MDHHS on Monday had Keweenaw County at 64 confirmed cases and 14 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 121 confirmed cases and 56 probable; Alger County, 169 confirmed, 83 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 182 confirmed cases and 12 probable, one death and one probable; Mackinac County, 235 confirmed cases and 93 probable, one death; Ontonagon County, 266 confirmed, 28 probable and 14 deaths, one probable; Chippewa County, 408 confirmed cases and 553 probable, and six deaths, two probable; Baraga County, 427 confirmed cases, 81 probable and 24 deaths; Gogebic County, 627 confirmed cases and 249 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and 13 probable deaths; Iron County, 718 confirmed cases and 38 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,273 confirmed cases, 152 probable and 19 deaths; Houghton County, 1,389 confirmed cases, 315 probable, 13 confirmed deaths and three probable; Dickinson County, 1,786 confirmed cases and 121 probable, 46 confirmed deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 2,319 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 53 confirmed deaths and 12 probable; and Marquette County, 2,837 confirmed cases, 338 probable and 35 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Using only the state’s figures Monday, the Upper Peninsula has had 12,821 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 256 deaths.
The MDHHS on Monday reported 9,350 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan since Saturday for a total of 404,386 to date. The state added 93 new deaths since Saturday to reach 9,947.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site Monday showed 29 new positives in Marinette County, 12 in Vilas County, six in Florence and Forest counties, and five in Iron County. Vilas County had two new deaths, Marinette County one.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Monday had Marinette County with 3,145 confirmed cases, 274 probable cases and 36 deaths; Vilas County, 1,359 confirmed, 42 probable and 15 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 762 confirmed, 48 probable and 19 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 376 confirmed, 76 probable and 10 deaths, five probable; and Florence County, 358 confirmed, 26 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin had 2,155 new positives Monday for a total of 414,332 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state added 19 deaths Monday to reach 3,738.
