Iron County adds another virus death

Iron County has reported a coronavirus-related death for a second straight day, according to local health officials.

On its Facebook page, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted three new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and nine recoveries Tuesday. Iron County also had three new confirmed cases and three recovered, along with the new death, a day after adding three more deaths.

The DIDHD on Tuesday listed Dickinson County at 2,092 confirmed positives and 233 probable cases, with 2,085 recovered, 67 deaths and 173 cases still active.

For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 848 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 775 recovered, 39 deaths and 98 still active.

The department this morning was accepting a limited number of new appointments for COVID vaccinations for those in Phase 1B Priority One and Two groups.

The Phase 1B Priority One group includes those age 65 and older. The Phase 1B Priority Two group is first responders, educators, corrections staff and child protective service workers.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday added only 28 new confirmed positives: eight in Gogebic County; six in Houghton County; four in Menominee County; three in Chippewa County; two each in Dickinson and Iron counties; and one each in Delta, Mackinac and Alger counties. The state recorded new deaths in Iron and Houghton counties.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday listed Keweenaw County at 102 confirmed cases and 25 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 129 confirmed cases and 74 probable; Schoolcraft County, 226 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 266 confirmed, 149 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 275 confirmed cases and 143 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 315 confirmed, 33 probable and 17 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 485 confirmed cases, 91 probable and 30 deaths; Chippewa County, 686 confirmed cases and 1,004 probable, and 20 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 823 confirmed cases and 317 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and 26 probable; Iron County, 845 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 36 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,583 confirmed cases, 254 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,965 confirmed cases, 475 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,089 confirmed cases and 230 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,606 confirmed cases and 454 probable, 62 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,382 confirmed cases, 482 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 15,777 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 364 deaths.

The MDHHS on Tuesday listed 1,476 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 552,556. The state added 79 new deaths Tuesday — including 44 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 14,405.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday showed 11 new confirmed positives in Marinette and Vilas counties, and two in Forest and Iron counties.

The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 3,872 confirmed cases, 370 probable cases and 58 deaths, two probable death; Vilas County, 1,877 confirmed, 103 probable and 31 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 901 confirmed, 67 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 471 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 417 confirmed, 32 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,301 new positives Tuesday for a total of 535,218 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state listed 54 new deaths Tuesday to reach 5,753.
