Iron County sees 35th virus death

Local health officials reported another death linked to COVID-19 in Iron County, even as the number of new positives continues to slow in the area.

On its Facebook page, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted five new confirmed cases for Dickinson County and 11 recoveries, while Iron County had two new confirmed positives, three recovered cases and the new death.

The DIDHD on Tuesday listed Dickinson County at 2,075 confirmed positives and 219 probable cases, with 2,025 recovered, 67 deaths and 202 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 831 confirmed cases and 65 probables, with 757 recovered, 35 deaths and 104 still active.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site

Tuesday added 39 confirmed positives: 12 in Marquette County; 11 in Houghton County; five in Dickinson County; two in Iron and Menominee counties; and one each in Delta, Gogebic, Keweenaw, Mackinac, Ontonagon, Schoolcraft and Baraga counties.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday listed Keweenaw County at 97 confirmed cases and 20 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 129 confirmed cases and 71 probable; Schoolcraft County, 225 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 236 confirmed, 144 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 271 confirmed cases and 137 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 292 confirmed, 30 probable and 15 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 481 confirmed cases, 90 probable and 29 deaths; Chippewa County, 671 confirmed cases and 984 probable, and 16 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 788 confirmed cases and 306 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and 24 probable; Iron County, 829 confirmed cases and 63 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,557 confirmed cases, 246 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,884 confirmed cases, 460 probable, 27 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,072 confirmed cases and 217 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,580 confirmed cases and 450 probable, 61 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,342 confirmed cases, 467 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 15,454 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 348 deaths.

The MDHHS on Tuesday listed 1,738 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 540,115. The state added 41 new deaths Tuesday to reach 13,865.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday showed seven new confirmed positives in Marinette County, four in Florence County, three in Iron and Vilas counties, and one in Forest County.

The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 3,805 confirmed cases, 358 probable cases and 55 deaths; Vilas County, 1,815 confirmed, 94 probable and 31 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 894 confirmed, 66 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 448 confirmed, 111 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 416 confirmed, 30 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
