Marinette County reports 8th virus death in 10 days

Wisconsin health officials Friday recorded another COVID-19-related death in Marinette County, the eighth new fatal case in that county in the past 10 days.

The death brings the total toll in Marinette County to 58, with 3,843 confirmed coronavirus positives.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday added 49 confirmed positives: 12 in Houghton County; six each in Delta and Gogebic counties; five in Chippewa County; four each in Iron and Marquette counties; three each in Menominee, Ontonagon and Alger counties; and one each in Dickinson, Keweenaw and Baraga counties. Delta County had a new death attributed to the coronavirus.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday listed Keweenaw County at 100 confirmed cases and 24 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 129 confirmed cases and 72 probable; Schoolcraft County, 225 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 253 confirmed, 147 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 272 confirmed cases and 141 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 307 confirmed, 32 probable and 16 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 485 confirmed cases, 90 probable and 30 deaths; Chippewa County, 681 confirmed cases and 995 probable, and 19 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 803 confirmed cases and 311 probable, 15 confirmed deaths and 24 probable; Iron County, 840 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 35 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,569 confirmed cases, 254 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,925 confirmed cases, 469 probable, 29 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,079 confirmed cases and 225 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,593 confirmed cases and 458 probable, 62 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,369 confirmed cases, 471 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 15,630 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 358 deaths.

The MDHHS on Friday listed 2,157 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 546,468. The state added 17 new deaths Friday to reach 14,070.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday showed 16 new positives in Iron County, 14 in Marinette County and nine in Vilas County. Marinette County had the only new death.

The DHS on Friday had Marinette County with 3,843 confirmed cases, 368 probable cases and 58 deaths, one probable death; Vilas County, 1,841 confirmed, 98 probable and 31 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 897 confirmed, 66 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 467 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 417 confirmed, 31 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 2,070 new positives Friday for a total of 530,171 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state listed 36 new deaths Friday to reach 5,643.
