State data shows only 24 new virus cases in UP
The pace of COVID-19 positives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula appears to be slowing, with state health officials adding only two dozen new cases Saturday.
Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday showed 24 new confirmed positives: five each in Houghton and Ontonagon counties; four each in Gogebic and Chippewa counties; two in Marquette County; and one each in Iron, Menominee, Delta and Baraga counties; Dickinson County’s count was reduced by one. The site posted new deaths in Iron, Delta and Baraga counties.
In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday listed Keweenaw County at 105 confirmed cases and 25 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 130 confirmed cases and 74 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 226 confirmed cases and 25 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 272 confirmed, 152 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 277 confirmed cases and 144 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 331 confirmed, 40 probable and 17 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 487 confirmed cases, 94 probable and 31 deaths; Chippewa County, 695 confirmed cases and 1,009 probable, and 20 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 849 confirmed cases and 321 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and 27 probable; Iron County, 851 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 38 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Menominee County, 1,592 confirmed cases, 255 probable and 33 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,991 confirmed cases, 483 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,095 confirmed cases and 236 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,615 confirmed cases and 459 probable, 63 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,401 confirmed cases, 483 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 15,917 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 367 deaths.
The MDHHS on Saturday listed 1,358 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 559,241. The state added 104 new deaths Saturday — including 93 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 14,601. The MDHHS no longer updates figures on Sundays.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday had 29 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, eight in Marinette County, five in Forest County, four in Iron County and two in Florence County. Marinette County had a new death to reach 60.
The DHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,904 confirmed cases, 371 probable cases and 60 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 1,957 confirmed, 110 probable and 32 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 911 confirmed, 69 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 476 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 426 confirmed, 32 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 1,493 new positives Saturday and 1,007 on Sunday for a total of 542,415 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed 33 new deaths Saturday but only three Sunday to reach 5,896.
