UP adds 11 virus cases, no deaths

The Upper Peninsula added only 11 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Wednesday and no new deaths attributed to the coronavirus, according to Michigan health statistics.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed four new confirmed cases in Houghton and Gogebic counties; and one each in Iron, Menominee and Marquette counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 16,239 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 379 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 108 confirmed cases and 27 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 82 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 276 confirmed, 155 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 280 confirmed cases and 151 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 356 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 501 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 709 confirmed cases and 1,010 probable, and 21 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 864 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 39 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 910 confirmed cases and 336 probable, 18 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,608 confirmed cases, 260 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,068 confirmed cases, 508 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,119 confirmed cases and 236 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,639 confirmed cases and 469 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,440 confirmed cases, 492 probable and 54 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS posted 939 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan on Wednesday for a total of 577,203. The state added 11 new deaths Wednesday to reach 15,188.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had five new confirmed positives in both Iron and Vilas counties, three in Marinette County and one in Forest County. Iron County had a new coronavirus-related death as well.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,962 confirmed cases, 379 probable cases and 61 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,073 confirmed, 119 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 920 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 524 confirmed, 116 probable and 20 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 431 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 657 new positives Wednesday for a total of 556,989 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 10 new deaths Wednesday to reach 6,214.

The Dickinson-Iron County Health Department did not update local figures Wednesday. The DIDHD on Tuesday had Dickinson County at 2,123 confirmed positives and 238 probable cases, with 2,212 recovered, 67 deaths and 82 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 865 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 846 recovered, 45 deaths and 38 still active.
