State adds 43 COVID cases in UP; no deaths

State data Friday showed 43 more confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula, including four in Dickinson County and one in Iron County.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Friday added six new confirmed positives in both Delta and Mackinac counties; five in Luce and Baraga counties; four in Dickinson, Schoolcraft and Houghton counties; three in Marquette and Chippewa counties; and one each in Iron, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties. No new deaths were listed in the region.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 19,705 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 423 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 199 confirmed cases and 226 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 320 confirmed, 192 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 328 confirmed cases and 78 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 406 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 429 confirmed cases and 242 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 644 confirmed cases, 123 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 970 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,027 confirmed cases and 360 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,064 confirmed cases and 1,380 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,777 confirmed cases, 322 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,382 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,494 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,307 confirmed cases and 669 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,215 confirmed cases, 804 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Friday posted 1,766 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 873,335. The state Friday had 33 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 18,500.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had four new confirmed positives in Vilas County, three in Marinette County and one each in Florence and Forest counties. A new death was recorded for Florence County — the county had reported it earlier in the week — and Marinette County’s death toll was reduced by one.

The DHS on Friday had Marinette County with 4,170 confirmed cases, 463 probable cases and 65 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,264 confirmed, 146 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 961 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 578 confirmed, 119 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 448 confirmed, 54 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 513 new positives Friday for a total of 605,376 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted only one new death Friday — the one in Florence County — to reach 6,954.
