Loafing at Lake Antoine
Several adult Canada geese keep watch while others and their goslings, many still showing some down, relax Thursday under the shade of a tree along Lake Antoine in Iron Mountain. The adult geese likely are molting right now — some discarded feathers are actually visible in the grass — as they replace their primary flight feathers to be ready for fall migration. During that four- to five-week process, the geese will be unable to fly but otherwise can move around normally. (Brian Christensen/Daily News photo)
