Marquette man arraigned in fatal stabbing

MARQUETTE — The man accused of fatally stabbing a 61-year-old Marquette resident early Sunday has been arraigned in the 96th District Court on one count of homicide – open murder, statutory short form, according to court records.

Curtis John Contois, 39, of Marquette also was referred Monday for a competency evaluation, court documents stated.

The stabbing happened about 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Furnace Street, according to the Marquette Police Department. Patrick Allen Parker, 61, died a short time later at Upper Peninsula Health System-Marquette.

The male suspect fled, but police located him at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the MPD.

The incident remains under investigation, and more information will be provided at a later date, police said Sunday. A future court date for Contois had not yet been set as of Monday afternoon, court records showed.

Contois remains in the Marquette County Jail.
