Breitung OKs assessing clerk
QUINNESEC — Breitung Township Board has approved an internal transfer to fill a position in the township assessor’s office.
Karie Taff, formerly a deputy in the clerk department, was appointed a part-time assessing clerk under Assessor Justin Murawski at the clerical II wage, which starts at $20.45 an hour.
Township Superintendent Steve Mulka spoke with municipal attorney William Fahey and confirmed a transfer to the vacant position was allowed under township policy. Mulka recommended Taff for the job in a report.
Murawski also recommended Taff be appointed assessing clerk, saying she had “more than enough” experience.
The board tabled a motion whether to approve Ann Gasperich as deputy assessor and deputy zoning administrator to allow the Breitung Township Personnel Committee a chance to speak to Murawski.
In other business Aug. 23, the board:
— Renewed the Provident Insurance Accident and Health insurance policy, which covers members of the Breitung Township Volunteer Firefighter Department. The policy is a three-year premium at a cost of $18,047.
— Approved the purchase of a trench box from industrial equipment supplier Motion Industries at a cost not to exceed $9,754.07.
— Discontinued, as recommended by the Breitung Township Water and Sewer Board, the practice of leaving door hangers at residences of customers who have not paid their water bill. Customers will receive their water bill and second notice before their water is shut off.
— Increased the deputy clerk and deputy treasurer wages to clerical II effective Aug. 23.
The board will next meet Sept. 15 as the Michigan Townships Association is set to hold its MTA UP North Summit on Sept. 13 and 14 at the Island Resort & Conference Center in Harris.
