DIDHD: 228 new virus cases in Dickinson, 89 in Iron in past week

COVID-19 activity continues to spike in the area, with local data Thursday showing Dickinson County in the past seven days has added 228 new confirmed COVID-19 positives plus a death blamed on the virus, while Iron County had 89 more cases and one more death as well.

Dickinson County also has had 192 probable coronavirus positives and Iron County five probables since the last Dickinson-Iron District Health Department report Jan. 6.

In addition, Dickinson County had 87 people reclassified as recovered from the virus, while Iron County had 34 recoveries, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Thursday.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 4,033 confirmed positives and 1,743 probable cases to date, with 4,912 recovered, 96 deaths and 768 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,847 confirmed cases and 208 probables, with 1,818 recovered, 72 deaths and 165 active cases.

The weekly COVID-19 report from the DIDHD came on the same day Norway-Vulcan Area Schools shut down its elementary, daycare, preschool and pre-kindergarten programs and switched all early kindergarten to fifth-grade students to remote learning until at least Jan. 21 due to a high number of students and staff falling ill with the coronavirus. The high school and middle school remain in session for now.
