Murder suspect to undergo forensic examination
ISAIAH STRIETER
HOUGHTON — The Hancock man charged in his mother’s death in January will undergo a forensic examination for competency and criminal responsibility.
Isaiah Strieter, 18, waived the preliminary hearing that had been scheduled to take place in 97th District Court on Wednesday.
Strieter is charged with open homicide, a felony punishable by life in prison, and possessing a firearm while committing a felony, a two-year felony.
His attorney, David Gemignani, made the motion for forensic examination after having extensive conversations with Strieter and reviewing his counseling records and school records, he said.
There was no date set for Strieter’s next hearing.
Strieter allegedly shot 38-year-old Ashlee Harvey with a 9 mm pistol at a home on Quincy Street in Franklin Township in January. Officers found Harvey’s body after receiving reports of gunfire. Strieter was arrested hours later.
