Rock, mineral club to meet in Ishpeming
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time Sunday at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid St., in Ishpeming.
Lacee J. Hartzell, gemologist and sales manager at Wattsson and Wattsson Jewelers in Marquette, will demonstrate on how to determine when a rock or mineral is a gemstone and the characteristics one looks for in a quality gemstone.
Hartzell will also explain the Mohs scale, used to determine the hardness of a stone, and she will answer all gemstone related questions.
Doors will open at 1 p.m. to allow members and visitors time to bid on silent auction specimens and to view the club’s mineral collection. The program will start at 1:30 p.m.
A door prize drawing, a 50/50 drawing and a business meeting will follow the program.
Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy, and learn about the wonders of rocks and minerals. There is no admission charged.
