IM man admits to domestic violence, assault in 2025

IRON MOUNTAIN — An Iron Mountain man pleaded guilty Thursday to domestic violence and assault and battery that involved a Dickinson County District Court judge.

In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop a dangerous weapon-carrying with unlawful intent charge that had been the only felony against Jeffrey Warren.

His attorney, Karl Numinen, said the plea agreement recommended a delay of sentence on the remaining charges, both misdemeanors. According to online information, a delay of sentence means the person is placed on probation for no more than a year; if terms are successfully completed, the charges may be reduced or dismissed.

Michigan Assistant Attorney General Michael Frezza told Iron County Trial Court Judge Donald Powell, who was presiding via Zoom, that no further charges were expected from the incident.

Warren was listed as age 65 when arrested Nov. 27, 2025. He admitted Thursday he assaulted Julie LaCost, judge for the 95-B District Court, along with another individual on that date. LaCost was reportedly dating Warren at the time. Few other details were released on the assault.

Sentencing has been set for 11:30 a.m. June 29.

Starting at $3.50/week.
