NORWAY — Scott James Degenaer, 61, formerly of Norway, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, Silay City, Negros Occidental, Philippines.

Scott was born March 12, 1962, in Norway, and was the son of Delbert Degenaer and Fay (Faccio) Steinbeck. Scott graduated from Norway High School in 1980.

On June 24, 2022, he was united in marriage to Miriam Seneres Olaera at Iglesia Ni Cristo House of Worship in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

He proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 20 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, remodeling, building canoes, and tinkering around outside.

He had a love for guns, cigarettes and alcohol.

He is survived by his parents, Delbert Degenaer (Kathy Sayles) of Vulcan and Fay (Duane) Steinbeck of Iron Mountain; his wife, Miriam of the Philippines; two children, Omar (Tracey) Degenaer of Green Bay, Wis. and Jasmine Degenaer (Michael Holloman) of Virginia Beach, Va.; the mother of his children, Najat Degenaer; stepdaughters, Noemi Fim D. Almeda (Jake Doria Almeda) and Noramie O. De Pablo; four grandchildren, Amina and Amiyah Holloman, and Delaney and Dominic Degenaer; stepgrandson, Jack Neon Almeda; siblings, Robbie Ann Kollmann (Mike Hood), LaDina (Aaron) Zietlow, Amanda (Lionel) Lauren, Dallas Degenaer (Jacqie Ellis); stepsister, Amy (Nick) Blohowiak; nephews, Garrett Kollmann (Barbra Sullivan), Jordan (Charity) Kollmann, Tyler Perrault, Jacob Miller, Aaron Blohowiak; nieces, Megan Kollmann (Mike Jones), Paige (Pete) Ellis, Gabrielle Blohowiak; great-nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Francelia (Smeltzer) Degenaer; maternal grandparents, Eval and Eunice (Fazer) Faccio; stepmother, Jane Degenaer; brother-in-law, Eugene Kollmann; uncles, Roger Faccio Sr. and Perley Hood; aunts, Ann Degenaer, Bonnie Hoskins, and Susan Faccio; cousins, Jimmy and Melissa Faccio, and Michael Fox; and many other relatives.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.
