Taking the high road

Nothing worthwhile is easy in life and that includes our response to difficult situations, whether it be personal relationships, work, etc. ... No matter if insulted or unjustly treated in some other manner, our reply can determine how detrimental the effect of the situation is on us as human beings. Are we a nation in decline?

Was this election an indication of a nation on a hill? I would answer that by looking at how the national values, honesty, and economic decisions that strive to keep a nation strong, and benefit all its people by lifting up those groups that greed and capitalism harms, elects honest leadership, and strives to treat all people with empathy and respect, and practice the humanity most churches preach every Sunday. Hoping the best for Trump

EDITOR: I sat this election out for the simple reason I didn’t like the policies of Kamala Harris and do not care for Donald Trump as a person. Now that Trump has been elected, my hope is he becomes the best president in the history of the country, for the simple reason we as a country will be better for it and as citizens will be blessed if so happens. Returning to my home in Iowa from a recent trip to my hometown of Iron Mountain, as I crossed the Mississippi River into Iowa, I noticed the welcome billboard with the latest state slogan, “Freedom to Flourish.” It gave me pause. Ultimately, it made me sad as I thought about it — Freedom for WHOM to flourish? Thinking of how we pick leaders

EDITOR: We are less than a week out from picking a leader for our federal government. For us here in Dickinson County, we are far removed from the federal government. However, whoever is elected on Nov. 5, the country will follow that person for the next four years. I was thinking about a “What If” scenario.
