So, former President Donald Trump packed the U.S. Supreme Court. Are you saying, Mr. Miller (Letter to the Editor on March 12), that the Democrats would not pack the court with liberal judges? Remembering news carrier boys winning Chicago trip in 1953

On a Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 1953, I was 12 years old. The Iron Mountain News paperboys, who won a trip to Chicago, were being picked up and brought to The Iron Mountain News office. There were 20 winners. We earned points, 75 to qualify, adding new customers, and selling to customers subscriptions for magazines, four per month at 15 cents per week. I was picked up at Vivio’s store in Norway by Les, the paper bundle delivery guy, on his route to Powers. Along the way we picked up two other winners, one in Vulcan and another in Loretto. Thinking through impeachment

I see the House of Representatives is trying to impeach President Joe Biden no matter how specious their “evidence” against him is. It is probably going nowhere, but let us just for a moment consider that they do impeach him and that the Senate convicts him and he is out of office. That would be a big day for America. Speak up against copper mine plan

I strongly oppose the Michigan Strategic Fund using $50 million in taxpayer revenue to fund the proposed Copperwood Mine, right next to both Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains. In addition to disrupting the area with noise and light pollution, subterranean blasting and heavy industrial traffic, they actually plan to mine underneath state park property. Copperwood would also be the closest metallic sulfide mine to Lake Superior in history, requiring the storage of 30-plus million tons of toxic waste on downward-sloping topography. Tuesday, March 12, is Equal Pay Day. In the U.S., this day represents how far into the year the average median women must work in order to have earned what the average median man had earned the entire previous year. For specific populations, the Equal Pay calendar looks quite different.
