Jets slowed by Wolves, 3-0

CARNEY — The Carney-Nadeau Wolves held on to the serve much of Tuesday night as they rolled to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-2, 25-12) volleyball victory over the North Central Jets.

A nine-point service run by senior libero Zoey Poupore gave the Wolves a 10-0 advantage in the second set and a nine-point run by left-handed senior Sandra Boulton concluded that set.

Poupore added an eight-point run in the third set, giving the Wolves a 24-9 cushion in their home debut.

“It was good to see the girls were hitting some serves when they had a chance to get a run going,” said C-N coach Steve Kedsch. “We were serving well and had some nice driving serves, which I think kept them off balance a little. We had a couple good practices since the Kingsford (Invitational) tournament. We’ve been working real hard on defense and getting our freeball attacks in.”

North Central trailed 4-3 in the finale following a kill by junior Andie Arsenault in Rick Mick’s coaching debut. The Wolves then got a sideout and an ace by Boulton for a 6-3 lead.

The Jets were within 7-4 after a service error. The Wolves, however, didn’t allow them to get any closer.

“Sandra had a nice match,” said Kedsch. “She had a tough day (Friday) at Kingsford. It was nice to see her bounce back. Playing in that tournament was big for us. We got a chance to play some quality teams.

“In all fairness to North Central, this was their first match. The next time we play them, they’re going to be a different team. They kept trying. They tried to hit the ball hard, only it didn’t work out for them tonight.”

The Jets were within 13-7 following a four-hit violation by the Wolves in the opener.

Carney responded with a 7-2 run, gaining a 20-9 advantage on back-to-back aces by Boulton.

Boulton finished with nine aces, five kills and two digs. Junior Liana Blahnik collected seven kills and three digs. Junior setter Haley Ernest had 15 assists and Zoey Poupore was the Wolves’ defensive leader with six digs.

The Wolves, who also won the jayvee match (25-6, 25-10), visit Forest Park Thursday. The Jets host Forest Park Sept. 10.
