Knights look to compete

NORWAY — With three returning starters, one of them being a three-year varsity starter, the Norway Knights and head coach Jeff Gallino look to be competitive in the tough Skyline Central Conference.

Key graduation losses for a team that went 8-13 overall last season, are Trey Doda, Isaac Ray and Mitchell Legrave.

This year’s squad has six seniors and four juniors on the roster, with returning starters Kody Hendricks, Logan Parolini and Jeff VanHolla.

“I love this team’s work ethic, and we have three year-starter Kody Hendricks back,” said Gallino. “Two of our guards Jeff VanHolla and Logan Parolini had a lot of playing time and experience last year on the varsity as sophomores.”

Gallino noted that his team has been focusing on conditioning and fundamentals in preseason practices.

“We took our lumps a little bit last year being a younger team, but we hope that experience will pay off,” he said. “Carney, North Central, Bark River, and Rapid River all look like tough teams in the conference. It is going to be a battle on a nightly basis in the Skyline.”

JV Coach Jon Belaire returns to the bench this season, having been a junior high coach prior to taking over the JV helm when Gallino moved up to take the varsity job a couple seasons ago.

Norway begins their season Monday night when they travel to Skyline Conference foe North Dickinson. Norway then will be off until Monday, Dec. 16, when they host another conference foe, Mid Peninsula.
