Sizzling Nordic girls win 8th straight game

ROCK — Led by Skye Ledzian’s double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, fifth-ranked North Dickinson put four players in double figures and romped Mid Peninsula 66-30 in Skyline Central girls basketball Friday evening.

“We played outstanding defense again tonight,” Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson said. “I thought Briana Smith did one heck of a job against Kennedy Englund, holding her to just four points while she was out there.”

Smith also joined Ledzian in double digits for the Nordics with 11 points. Ashton Hord poured in 17, and Hannah Clark scored 10.

“Skye really had a big night,” Mattson noted. “They just didn’t have an answer for her inside. We focused on that in practice, getting her the ball down low, and she did very well down there tonight.”

The victory was North Dickinson’s eighth straight and upped the team’s record to 8-1.

“This is typically a hard place for us to play, so I’m extremely happy,” Mattson said. “The girls were ready to go tonight, and they were firing on all cylinders.”

Kennedy Englund led Mid Pen with 10 points and six rebounds.

North Dickinson’s JV team fell 46-42 in overtime, despite a 21-point effort by eighth grader Mya Grunland.

North Dickinson returns home Tuesday, hosting rival Forest Park.
