Flivvers zap Hematites

ISHPEMING — Kingsford put three players in double figures, led by sophomore Brody Kopp’s 22 points, and defeated Ishpeming 73-53 in non-conference boys basketball Friday.

“We were able to create quite a few turnovers,” said Kingsford coach Dan Olkkonen. “We did a really good job sharing the ball in the second half.”

Nick Nora and Cole Bracket added 11 points apiece for the Flivvers, who led 36-23 at the break. Most of Kopp’s points came in the paint.

“The guys looked for him,” Olkkonen said. “It nice that we had multiple people contributing,” he added, noting strong games from Chris Carollo, who had nine points, and Michael Meneguzzo, who scored seven.

Kingsford, at 5-14, finishes the regular season Thursday at North Dickinson.

Gavin Argall scored 15 points to lead the Hematites, who fell to 7-11.

Kingsford JVs won 75-27, getting 23 points from Nathan Bousley, 13 from Danny Weber and 12 from Cade Counter.

Kingsford freshmen defeated Negaunee on Thursday, 56-35, behind Cole Myllala’s 31 points. Jace Turri had 24 points for the Miners.
