Jets hold off Trojans

POWERS — The North Central boys scored three in double digits here Friday night in a 52-43 basketball triumph over the Forest Park Trojans.

Noah Gorzinski led the Jets with 19 points. Brien Gronmark added 17 and Luke Gorzinski scored 12.

“Brien shot real well tonight,” said Jets’ coach Mike Malone. “Luke played on a sprained ankle and played fantastic. Noah played like a true leader and Leo Gorzinski and Carter Eichmeier defended well in the paint. It was a real good game. We had a run in the third quarter. We were up by 12 points and held on to the lead.”

Keall Emmers led all scorers with 19 points for Forest Park, with Tommy Showers chipping in 11 points in the loss, that dropped the Trojans to 6-7 on the season.

“The third quarter hurt us by not being able to put the ball through the hoop and they hit some shots down the stretch and we didn’t” said Trojans first year head coach Kurt Lehmann. “That’s the difference in close games, and they’re a tough team and hit some tough shots tonight.”

Lehmann noted that Emmers played really well and Gavin Johnson and Gabe Scarlassara played tough defense, while guard the Jets best players. “Tommy Peltoma also had a really good night for us on the glass,” said Lehmann.

“The guys were battling all night in the paint,” said Malone. “Forest Park has big, strong kids inside. They can wear you down.”

North Central (8-4 overall, 8-3 SCC), which won the jayvee game 72-21, goes to Rapid River Tuesday. Forest Park (8-5 overall, 6-4 league) visits North Dickinson Tuesday.
