Runsat double-double not enough for IM

IRON MOUNTAIN — Despite having three players in double figures, Iron Mountain fell 52-46 to Ishpeming in girls basketball action here Monday night.

Emma Porier led all scorers with 19 points for Ishpeming, while teammate Madisyn Mead canned 12 points.

Sophomore Annslee Runsat led the way for the Mountaineers with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mountaineer seniors Claire Mongrain and Reagan Lundholm each netted 11 points. Tori Sorensen grabbed 13 rebounds with five points, and freshman Ellison Powell scored seven points for the Mountaineers.

“In the first half we failed to move our feet, resulting in Iron Mountain spending a majority of their time on the free throw line,” said Ishpeming head coach Ryan Reichel. “Credit to the Mountaineers, because they made most of those free throws and it really didn’t help us get in to a rhythm.”

Reichel noted that it was hard trying to generate energy but in the second half, his girls defended a little better and it helped us get in transition for some baskets.

“It’s always nice to get a win on the road, especially a conference win,” said Reichel about the dual conference Mid-Peninsula and West PAC game.

“Overall a pretty hard fought game tonight by both teams,” Iron Mountain head coach Katelynn Grenier said. “We had some runs and they had some runs. We have to capitalize more on steals and make our shots near the basket.

“We attacked the basket and shot a lot of free throws. We need to finish better at the line in order to win close games.”

The Mountaineers (1-12, 1-9 West PAC, 0-6 MPC) travel to Manistique on Thursday.

Ishpeming (4-10, 3-8 West PAC, 3-6 MPC) also won the JV game, 36-34.
