Wonders selected best in Mid Peninsula

IRON MOUNTAIN – Iron Mountain junior Foster Wonders was named the Mid Peninsula Conference boys basketball Player of the Year Monday, as selected by the league’s coaches.
Wonders, an NCAA Division I recruit, led the conference with a 26.8 points per game average. He also posted 8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game this season for the 20-1 Mountaineers.
Senior Marcus Johnson, who recently eclipsed 2,000 career points, averaged 22.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.2 steals per contest during the regular season. He was named to the all-conference first team as well as the all-defensive team.
Wonders and Johnson shared Player of the Year honors in 2018-19. Johnson was the Player of the Year in 2017-18.
Other MPC first team picks were: Negaunee seniors Jakson Sager, Jason Waterman and Drew Lindberg, along with Westwood sophomore Zach Carlson.
Iron Mountain senior Tony Feira earned honorable mention.
On the girls side, Iron Mountain senior Reagan Lundholm received honorable mention.
In the Great Northern Conference, Kingsford saw two players earn accolades with junior Cole Bracket earning second team honors and junior Andrew Paupore receiving special mention.
The Kingsford freshmen team was recognized as league winner with its 8-0 conference record. The Flivver frosh were 16-2 overall.
Marquette’s Kameron Karp took home Player of the Year honors in the conference.
