Wykons edge Gladstone
GLADSTONE — West Iron County’s girls tennis team traveled to Gladstone for Great Northern Conference action on Thursday afternoon. The Wykons defeated the Braves 5-3.
“This was a good way to end the week against a feisty Gladstone team. I really believe the previous two road matches prepared us for this one and helped us to handle the wind a lot better,” said West Iron coach Joe Serbentas, noting that there were 15-20 mph winds off of Lake Michigan.
“All the singles players put together good game plans and executed points well during their matches. Tori (Bociek) and Madison (Berutti) really handled the strong winds well in their No. 1 doubles victory. Livea (Mazurek) continues to improve her consistency and it payed off today with a solid win,” Serbentas added.
West Iron hosts non-conference foe Iron Mountain on Tuesday.
