Badger spikers fall to Northern Lakes Conference leader Laona-Wabeno, 3-2

WABENO, Wis. — For the second consecutive night, the Niagara Lady Badgers girls volleyball team traveled for a non-conference match. Tuesday they traveled to Laona-Wabeno and were defeated by the Lady Rebels 3-2 (19-25, 52-15, 11-25, 25-17, 15-13).

“Tonight was a tough loss as our team played too inconsistent. When we led the momentum, Laona-Wabeno couldn’t stop us. Then the very next set, we played timid at the net and our defense didn’t get to position,” said veteran Niagara head coach Carol St. Arnauld.

Alyssa Cretton led Niagara in kills with 18, while registering 17 digs. Isabel Jacobs added 10 digs, Julia Brown had 20 digs and Morgan Borchardt added 14 digs and 26 assists.

Abby Wells tallied 23 digs, with Bailey Pearson leading Niagara in digs with 27.

“It was a roller coaster night with definite highs and lows. The girls truly need to believe in themselves and not give up on the ball. Playing smart and staying aggressive is exactly what we need to do if we want to continue to play throughout tournaments,” St. Arnauld added.

On Saturday afternoon, the Lady Badgers hosted Marinette-Oconto Conference foe Peshtigo. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Niagara 3-1 (27-29, 29-27, 25-17, 25-15).

Borchardt led in digs with 22 and assists with 35. Cretton led in kills with 18, while adding 17 digs.

Pearson tallied 14 kills and 15 digs, while teammates Wells and Jacobs added 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

Niagara returns home Thursday evening for another non-conference match, hosting Norway. The varsity only match will begin at 5:30 p.m.
