Flivvers split JV and freshman games against Marquette

MARQUETTE — Kingsford’s JV football team beat Marquette 35-7 on Oct. 1. After one quarter, the score was tied 7-7.

Kingsford took over the game defensively with some big plays at the end of the first half and in the third quarter. Cole Myllyla had an interception and Josh Peterson had a 79-yard interception return for a touchdown.

“We were very balanced offensively. We rushed for 240 yards and threw for 50,” said Flivvers head JV coach Jim Myllyla. “Offensive line did a nice job blocking all night.”

Peterson rushed for 61 tough yards and Cole Myllyla had 100 yards with 20- yard and 23-yard TD runs. Nic Nora scored on 1- and 20-yard runs.

The Flivver JVs travel to Gladstone tonight for a 6 p.m. Central time kickoff.

At Kingsford, the Flivver freshmen hosted Marquette on Oct. 1 in what was a defensive battle. Marquette came away with a 12-0 win.

“We were able to move the ball well and put together a few good drives, but just couldn’t finish them off,” said Kingsford coach John VanDusen. “It was a defensive slugfest with the only scores coming in the last few seconds of each half.”

Alex Rittenhouse played well on both sides of the ball. He had three carries for 34 yards and three tackles.

Nolan White led the defense with six tackles. He also had 11 carries for 34 yards. Eddie Davis recorded three tackles.

Cardel Morton had 12 carries for 71 yards and a reception for 23 yards, while also intercepting a pass.

Kingsford quarterback Eli Wallis went 3 for 5 for 39 yards. Michael Floriano also tallied an interception.

The Flivver freshmen play at Bark River-Harris against the Broncos JV team today at 5 p.m. Central time.
