Flivvers beat Jeffers for 2nd straight game

HOUGHTON — Behind two goals each from seniors Tyler Bengston and Carter Kreski, and 18 saves from senior goalie Evan Anderson, Kingsford’s hockey team defeated Great Lakes Hockey Conference foe Jeffers 4-2, at the John Macinnes Student Ice Arean on the campus of Michigan Tech University.

The host Jets led 1-0 after one period of play.

“Our first period was absolutely horrible,” said Flivvers head coach Greg Wadge. “We were much better in the second and third periods. Our defense got better as the game went on, and Evan was good in the net tonight.”

Kreski and Bengston each lit the lamp in the second period, with Daniel Maki assisting on Kreski’s goal and Kobe Gordon getting credit for the helper on Bengston’s tally.

Bengston put the Flivvers ahead 3-2 in the third period with his second goal of the contest, assisted by Hunter Fortner and David Juul.

Kingsford’s final goal of the contest was an empty net goal by Kreski.

Kingsford (3-1, 3-1 GLHC) travels to Calumet on Thursday night, before heading to Marquette for a Saturday morning contest at Lakeview Arena, beginning at 11 a.m. central.
