Forest Park girls down Rockets, 45-33
CRYSTAL FALLS — Behind an 11-0 first quater and two players scoring in double figures, Forest Park defeated Rapid River 45-33 in Skyline Conference girls basketball Tuesday night at the Eddie Chambers Memorial Gymnasium.
Lea LaChapelle canned a game-high 19 points, while Lauren Kudwa chipped in 10 points for the Lady Trojans.
“We had a good start in the first quarter, but we had too many turnovers in the second quarter but managed a scoring run towards the end of the first half,” said FP second year head coach Kim Bjork. “Unfortunately our turnovers were a big problem for us again tonight, and that’s something we need to figure out quickly.”
The Rockets were led in scoring by Natalie Belanger with 13 points.
Maddie Divine led the host Trojans with eight rebounds.
“We had some good moments and down the stretch, hitting our free throws to close out the game. Lea LaChapelle did a nice job handling the ball and was big at the free throw line. Gracie Peterson did a good job limiting scoring of Rapid River’s inside game,” Bjork added.
Forest Park (1-1), who won the JV contest 45-13, travel to North Dickinson on Thursday night.
