IRONWOOD — The fourth Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association U.P. basketball poll for the 2021 season has been tabulated.

Iron Mountain’s boys team (13-0) with their 58-52 win over previously undefeated and No. 1 ranked Escanaba (12-1) on Mar. 9, unanimously takes over the top spot in this week’s poll. The Mountaineers received all five first place votes and 25 poll points.

Westwood jumps into the poll for the first time this season, at No. 5 in Division 1-3. The Patriots did receive votes last week from the voting panel.

The Mountaineers and No. 4 Bark River-Harris, who remains undefeated (14-0), are scheduled to face one another Thursday at Iron Mountain in a non-conference game, to finish the regular season for both teams.

Munising (12-1) jumped ahead of Rudyard in this week’s Division 4 boys poll, to No. 2. The Mustangs defeated Rudyard on Saturday at Munising, and garnered one first place vote and 19 poll points from the voting panel.

The Blue Bolts of Dollar Bay moved back into the No. 3 spot in the Division 4 poll, with Rudyard slipping to No. 4. Chassell, who received votes last week, replaces Stephenson at No. 5. The Eagles went 1-2 last week, dropping their record to 8-5 on the season.

Sault Ste. Marie (11-0), who eked ahead of Menominee last week to take over the No. 1 spot, remains in the same spot this week with three first place votes and 23 poll points.

The Lady Maroons received the other two first place votes and 22 poll points from the voting panel.

St. Ignace (9-3) remains No. 3 and No. 4 also remains the same from last week, with it being undefeated Calumet (12-0).

The top two teams in the Division 4 girls poll, flip- flopped this week. Previous No. 1 Ewen-Trout Creek lost to Hancock last week, while previous No. 2 Carney-Nadeau, remains undefeated (15-0) and is the new No. 1-ranked team.

Next week’s poll will be last of the season, with the MHSAA District tournaments beginning early next week.
