Nordics hold back Norway

Copperkings run up score on Flivver girls

FELCH TOWNSHIP — Ashton Hord led all scorers with 16 points as North Dickinson stymied Norway 44-35 in a Skyline Central Conference girls basketball game at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium in Felch.

“We came out a little sluggish in the first quarter tonight, the girls were overthinking things. The girls responded well in the second quarter, as we went to a 1-2-2 zone,” said Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson.

Norway moved the ball around well in their half court sets, and shot well in the first half.

They played very scrappy on defense throughout the game, Mattson stated.

Kassandra Cary hit two early threes, which gave North Dickinson a boost right after halftime.

Vanessa Lindholm, who chipped in 11 points for the Nordics, played very well on both ends of the court, especially in the fourth quarter, Mattson noted.

“We switched out of our zone to a man to man in the fourth quarter, and it seemed to help us a-lot. Micah Lindholm got out of her shooting slump and rebounded very well tonight,” Mattson said.

“We went cold in there second half and ND kept up the tempo as we ran out of gas. Some timely mistakes down the strength gave ND an opportunity to take the lead and extend it,” said Norway head coach Joe Tinti. “Hord has excellent command of the court and was able to seal the game.”

North Dickinson improved to 6-5 (6-5 SCC) and is at Forest Park tonight. Norway (6-5, 6-4) also returns to action tonight, hosts non-conference foe West Iron. Norway won the JV game.
