Nordics sock Wolverines
ROCK — North Dickinson pulled away in the second half and defeated Mid Peninsula 38-24 in Skyline Conference boys basketball Thursday.
“They’re a very young team,” said Nordics coach Chris Mattson. “They played a very deliberate style and slowed the game down.”
Maximus Mattson scored 18 points for North Dickinson, who led 15-10 at halftime.
“In the third quarter, our defensive intensity picked up a little bit,” coach Mattson said.
The Nordics held a 24-14 advantage going into the fourth. Tucker Mattson and Brennan Donaldson added seven points each for North Dickinson and Colin Graham scored six.
Jonas Cretens led the Wolverines (1-10) with eight points and 12 rebounds.
“As far as I was concerned, the brightest spot for us was Jonas Cretens,” said Mid Pen coach Mark Branstrom. “He’s a freshman center, and he’s been doing better and better. He came off the bench, and he’s been playing well for us.”
The Nordics (2-9) are at Rapid River on Tuesday.
