Flivvers defeat IM in baseball rivalry
IRON MOUNTAIN — Kingsford pitchers Andrew Paupore and Sawyer Pugh held Iron Mountain in check Saturday at LiUNA Field, lifting the Flivvers to a 14-3 win.
Paupore worked five innings, giving up three hits, two walks, and striking out seven. Sawyer Pugh pitched in the sixth and seventh and gave up one hit.
“As a coaching staff, we have been waiting for that ‘one game’ to happen where we would limit our walks and errors defensively in collaboration with our success at the plate,” Kingsford coach Matt LaLonde said. “Today was that day. We only committed one error and gave up two walks for the entire contest. Credit to the boys for playing the way they did.”
At the plate for Kingsford, Carter Kreski, Nolan LaVarnway and Dennis Neuens led the way with two hits apiece. Paupore contributed the other hit.
“As a team, when you can generate walks, put the bat on the ball, and take advantage of miscues, good things will happen,” LaLonde said. “We had runners on and in scoring positing in every inning.”
Ian Anderson slugged two hits for the Mountaineers, while Blake Julian and Tony Kralovec had one hit each.
Iron Mountain pitchers Julian, Carson McLean and Ian Anderson struck out eight, walked eight and gave up seven hits.
