IRON MOUNTAIN — Claire Mongrain took home three most valuable player awards and the female Pat Izzo Award as Iron Mountain High School held its senior sports awards banquet in the Izzo-Mariucci Center. Joey Dumais was the male Pat Izzo Award recipient, which is given out to a senior who excels both academically and athletically.

The Izzo-Mariucci Scholarship is given to a senior Mountaineer athlete each year who is going on to a four-year college or university to compete in athletics as well. This year’s recipients of the scholarship are Bryce Pietrantonio and Sarah Kulas.

Pietrantonio, who was also named as the football lineman of the year, signed a National Letter of Intent to play football at Michigan Tech University. Kulas, the cross country MVP, will run collegiately at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis.

Mongrain was selected as girls tennis, basketball and softball MVP.

Other multiple award winners Tuesday were Blake Julian, who was named MVP in both baseball and boys tennis, and Caleb-Evosevich-Hynes, who was named football overall MVP as well as most valuable back.

The remainder of the MVP selections are: Ricky Brown, boys golf; Madeline McCash, volleyball; Lily Verrette, girls golf; Adrian Vicenzi, boys soccer; Dante Basanese, boys track; Alexis Hagan, girls track; Jon Carrion, wrestling; and Foster Wonders, boys basketball.

Wonders, along with his MVP selection, had his number 00 retired by the school.
