Niagara softball defeats STAA

MARINETTE, Wis. — Niagara pitcher Noelle Champagne mowed down nine batters, while only allowing four hits, as the Lady Badgers cruised past St. Thomas Aquinas-Lena 16-1 in five innings here Thursday in a Marinette-Oconto Conference matchup.

Champagne also scored two runs and drove in a run.

Lillian Loukus scored three runs, while Haley Allred, Jadah McCarthy, Emma Broullire and Beau Anderson each had 2 RBI’s. Abigail Richtig also scored three runs for Niagara.

“Beau Anderson with a nice hit tonight, and Champagne pitched a gem,” said first-year Niagara coach Brad Richtig. “STAA is young but has a nice nucleus of young girls that will only get better with time.”

The Badgers had a 10-1 lead after two innings of play. They also stole 14 bases in the game with Richtig credited with a team-high of three.

Niagara will travel to Iron Mountain for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, before returning home to host M&O foe Wausaukee on Monday.
