Norway’s heavy hitting wears down feisty Niagara

NIAGARA, Wis, — Juniors Nolan Amundson and Chase Carlson each knocked in three runs and three other Norway players had two RBI’s each, as the Knights roared past Niagara, 18-8 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday.

Jesse Neumann, who along with Carlson hit a double, was one of the three Norway players with a pair of runs batted in. Alex Ortman and Brent Lagina were the others.

“Offensively we played well tonight. Base running was good for the most part,” said Norway head coach Tony Adams.

Ortman, who was the Knights’ starting pitcher, lasted three innings and picked up the win. The freshman fanned three, walked one and allowed only one hit. Carlson and Neumann also pitched for Norway.

Edward Swanson and Cody Bath each had two hits for Niagara, with Bath knocking in a pair.

“I am impressed with the kids. This is the third game in a row we battled back from behind, to get back in the game. We’ve been in most of our games, we simply need to get over the hump and get a win,” said Niagara head coach Dean Neveau. “We ran out of pitching as the game wore on.”

Norway had an 11-0 lead going into the home half of the 4th inning, as the Badgers plated eight runs the next two innings.

The Knights travel to non-conference foe Escanaba on Thursday.

Ross Shampo took the loss, with Bath and Christian Hedmark also pitching for Niagara

The Badgers will travel to Marinette-Oconto Conference power Coleman on Thursday.
