Balanced attack lifts Bobcats over Suring
FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence got big nights on offense from Evan Johnson, William Kelley and Logan Schuls and defeated Suring 32-16 in eight-player football Friday.
“A nice homecoming win,” said Florence coach Kent Walstrom.
The Bobcats (3-3) led 16-8 at halftime and 32-8 until late in the fourth quarter.
Johnson rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown. He also caught four passes from Kelley for 158 yards and a score.
Schuls totaling 55 rushing yards and 65 receiving yards, including a TD reception. Kelley finished with 228 yards passing for two TDs and also ran for a score.
Walstrom was pleased with the return of Dominic Axley at center, contributing to the ground attack.
On defense, he credited Isaiah Fennessy, Kyle Leffler, Trent Watkins and Will Sipple for solid work.
“Trent really played well at linebacker and Kyle did a great job filling the gaps,” he said. “Isaiah played really good contain setting the edge at defensive end.”
The Eagles went to the air later in the game, leading to a pair of interceptions by Johnson and one by Kelley.
Florence travels to Wausaukee on Friday.
