Florence goes 1-1 in volleyball triangular

WABENO, Wis. — Florence traveled to Laona-Wabeno for a Northern Lakes Conference triangular with Goodman-Pembine and the host Lady Rebels on Thursday evening. L-W defeated Florence, 2-0 (25-15, 25-8) while the LadyCats prevailed against Goodman- Pembine.

“We had to change our lineup around due to a player being out and I was super proud with how Leah Young and Leah Davis stepped up,” said Florence head coach Teresa Chrisman. “We battled Laona-Wabeno to start, but came up short. We are just a few steps off at times, and need to clean that up.”

Morgan Tomczak had eight kills on the night, while Isabella Millan notched five kills. Young had 15 assists as setter in the triangular.

Millan and freshmen Kamdan Johnson were 100% servers.

On Tuesday, the LadyCats hosted Three Lakes. The Blue Jays currently lead the conference and earned a No. 1 seed in upcoming WIAA Division 4 Regional play.

“They are who I thought they were –tough. We hung in there to start each set but made too many errors against a really good team,” Chrisman said. Three Lakes prevailed, 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-12.

The LadyCats and G-P end the regular season in Crandon on Saturday as the NLC tournament concludes. Both teams begin WIAA Division 4 Regional play on Tuesday as Florence hosts NLC foe Elcho, while the Lady Patriots travel to Marinette-Oconto Conference member Wausaukee on the same night.
