Grand feat: Larison scores 1,000th point in Patriots’ win

Goodman-Pembine senior Boone Larison scored his 1,000th point during his 33-point performance while helping lead the Patriots to a 69-60 home win over Crandon in a Northern Lakes Conference matchup Thursday.

GOODMAN — Perched on the edge of entering the 1,000-point club coming into the 2021-22 season, Goodman-Pembine senior Boone Larison didn’t waste time in taking flight into that lofty territory.

In fact, he did it in his first game.

Larison scored his 1,000th point during his 33-point performance when he led the Patriots to a 69-60 victory over Crandon in a Northern Lakes Conference matchup on Thursday night in Goodman. Larison buried four 3-pointers in the first half to lift the Patriots, playing in their first game of the season, to a 31-14 advantage after the first half.

Crandon made a game of it in the second half by outscoring Goodman-Pembine 46-38. But Larison, along with teammates Ryan Ehler and Landon Kalkofen (11 points each) helped the Patriots hold off the Cardinals.

Larison said breaking the 1,000-point barriers has been a goal of his since he was a kid.

“It is so exciting to have finally made it on the 1,000-point list,” Larison said. “I hope I can inspire younger kids to try and push themselves for the same goal.”

Goodman-Pembine coach Jeff Zerbst reflected on his star’s accomplishment.

“The first time I saw Boone play at the end of his eight-grade year, it was apparent he had all the physical tools to be a special player. By the middle of his sophomore season, he was already playing at a high varsity level and leading our team to victories as a first-team all (Northern Lakes Conference) player.

“Boone has always been coachable and eager to improve his game. When the bright lights come on, he is at his best. Reaching 1,000 points in the first game of his senior year is such an impressive feat and I could not be happier for him. It has been an honor to coach him throughout the years.”
