Kingsford routs Lady Trojans 61-17
CRYSTAL FALLS — Talia Wallis scored seven of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter as Kingsford raced out to a 17-point lead en route to a 61-17 triumph over Forest Park at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium in Crystal Falls.
“We came out with great intensity and kind of jumped on them from the start,” Kingsford coach Jon Lorenzoni said. “We did a real nice job finishing at the basket. It feels good to get that first win.”
Zoie Geronimi chipped in with 10 points and Erika Malone added nine.
After taking a 20-3 lead, the Flivvers increased their advantage to 30-12 at halftime. The Lady Trojans, who struggled all evening to score, put up just five points in the second half.
Lily Post led Forest Park with seven points, while Gracie Peterson added five.
In other girls varsity basketball action Friday night:
Bark River-Harris 51, North Dickinson 43
Aspen Fredrick scored eight points in the final quarter and Cara Zawicki tacked on seven more as the Broncos rallied for a Skyline Central Conference victory over the Nordics at Harris on Friday.
North Dickinson led by six after the first quarter, by five at halftime and by seven after three quarters, but couldn’t hold on for the win.
“I thought we had a very good first half, but I think we got a little tired in the fourth quarter and our shots weren’t going in,” Nordics coach Kirk Mattson said. “We played hard, but they had a little more than we did tonight. I thought we ran out of gas.”
Chrislyn Inglese led North Dickinson with 14 points to go with nine from Kassandra Cary, seven from Ashton Hord and six from Vanessa Lindholm.
The Nordics struggled from the free throw line, connecting on just 3 of 15 attempts.
Florence 52,
Goodman-Pembine 17
Kamdan Johnson scored 25 points and sank six 3-pointers to lead the Ladycats (5-1) to a Northern Lakes Conference victory at Goodman. Paige Uren added 12 points on 6 of 7 shooting for Florence, which led 33-5 at halftime.
“I thought it was a total team effort,” Florence coach Brad Perry said. “The kids played hard and everybody got involved and contributed.”
Isabella Millan, the state’s leading scorer at nearly 28 points per game, did not play in the game.
No statistics were reported by Goodman-Pembine as of press time Friday night.
