Shorthanded Forest Park falls to Broncos
HARRIS –The Forest Park girls basketball team knew that Friday’s matchup against Bark River-Harris was going to be a tough one.
But without two of their top players–senior center Gracie Peterson and sophomore forward Ema Stepien–not able to play, the Lady Trojans could not keep pace with the Broncos.
The Broncos forced 27 turnovers and jumped on Forest Park early on their way to a 75-24 victory in Skyline Central Conference play. Lauren Zawada and Aspen Fredrick scored 17 points each, and Cara Zawacki contributed 16 to the winning effort.
With two of her starters missing, Forest Park coach Kim Bjork said the BR-H fullcourt defense took over the game.
“We did not handle the press well,” Bjork said. “We let the press overwhelm us and gave up too many easy baskets.”
In turn, the Broncos shot 31 of 60 from the floor (51%), while the Lady Trojans managed just 8 of 28 (28%).
Freshman Lilly Post led FP with 10 points, while sophomore Lauren Kudwa added nine.
Bark River-Harris took a 25-5 lead after the first quarter and led 51-12 at halftime.
Bjork made no excuses for her shorthanded team.
“This was an eye opener for us, so we will see how we respond,” she said. “Our schedule does not get any easier. Our effort needs to be better.”
Forest Park fell to 1-1 with the loss.
