Visiting Flivver swim teams fall

MARQUETTE — The visiting Kingsford swim teams were outnumbered and overwhelmed by host Marquette in a dual swim meet Tuesday.

Marquette dominated the team scores in both the boys and girls divisions, winning the boys match 135-44 and girls 118-57.

“We were down our No. 2, 3 and 4 swimmers. That made it rough for the girls,” said Flivvers coach Jim Lindstrom.

Adelaide McRoberts was Kingsford’s sole individual winner in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke, along with anchoring the winning 200 freestyle relay with Petra Grubb, Sierra Scott, and Anna Lundholm.

“Marquette is too deep too good and well coached to take on missing key pieces,” Lindstrom added. “The bright side was a lot of our younger swimmers had an opportunity to see what they could do, and in most cases they really did very well.”

Much like the girls matchup, Kingsford’s boys team found itself outgunned.

“We have 12 Boys and they have 30,” Lindstrom said. “Joey Lundholm and Zane Cahee were our best performers in this meet.

“Every one of them like the girls gave it everything they had. Six of the 12 are in their first year and are still learning to race,” he added. “This is a scrappy bunch of kids, they are up for any challenge and don’t back down no matter what. As a coach you can’t ask for any more.”

Starting at $4.00/week.
