Golden arm: IM’s McLean named West Pac pitcher of year

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain junior Carson McLean has been named the 2022 West Pac Conference pitcher of the year by league coaches.
McLean went 6-2 for the Mountaineers with a scant ERA of 1.30. He fanned 53 hitters and walked just 12.
Mountaineer seniors Lucas Maxon and Hunter Fortner were selected to the nine-player all-conference first team. Junior Evan Haferkorn was picked to the second team, while sophomore Beau Kralovec was given honorable mention.
Houghton senior Kade Farrell was named West Pac player of the year, while his coach Joe Romano was chosen coach of the year.
Houghton was well represented on the league’s first team. Seniors Nick Horning, Dylan Primeau, Dylan Horning and Reed Heathman and junior Gaborik Carlson were picked, along with Calumet senior Dryden Nelson and Negaunee junior Keith Judici.
Second-teamers included Negaunee junior Nico Lukarainen, Houghton senior Jonah Horning, Hancock senior Chad Nordstrom, Calumet senior Carter Kipela, Negaunee sophomore Evan Gauthier, Hancock freshman Ned Larson, Hancock junior Brandon Pietila and Hancock sophomore Bryce Hanner.
Honorable mentions were also given to Houghton junior Cameron Cishke and Calumet junior Bruce Porisot.
