Kopp, Wallis named Kingsford top athletes

KINGSFORD — Seniors Brody Kopp and Talia Wallis were named the male athlete of the year and female athlete of the year, respectively, at Kingsford High School for the 2021-22 year.
Kopp, who was named to the Great Northern Conference football first team as a defensive back, was selected as the Flivvers football MVP, was given special mention on the Great Northern Conference basketball team and won two U.P. Division 1 relay titles the spring in track.
Wallis was chosen as the MVP on both the girls basketball team and the track team and was a key member of the volleyball team. She was picked to the GNC’s basketball second team and the league’s volleyball second team.
Michael Meneguzzo was a MHSAA Scholar-Athlete winner and Magdalaina Menghini was a finalist for the same award.
Kingsford team MVPs were as follows: Nic Nora (boys basketball), Wallis (girls basketball), Jenna Olkkonen (girls tennis), Isaac Nash (boys tennis), David Juul (from Iron Mountain High School, hockey), Ethan Gribble (boys soccer), Brooke Bittinger (girls soccer), Emma Andrews (volleyball), Menghini (girls golf), Cole Myllyla (boys golf), Kopp (football), Gabby Carey (IMHS, girls cross country), Luke Ruble (IMHS, boys cross country), Wallis (girls track), Trestan Larson (boys track), Sydney Scott (girls swimming), Toby Wilcox (wrestling), Henry McRoberts (baseball), Abby Terrian (softball), Olympia Moore (cheer), Alexis Jacko (girls bowling), Marcus Doucette (boys bowling) and Carey (girls skiing).

No MVPs were chosen for boys swimming and boys skiing.
