KINGSFORD — Five Kingsford players notched a goal each and five different players recorded assists as the Flivvers defeated Iron Mountain 5-1 on Tuesday at Commemorative Field.
Marshall Shorkey started the scoring with a 12-foot shot off assists from Gavin Moore and Jaxon Buckley at the 13-minute mark. Shorkey then sent a 35-foot pass in front of the goal and Trent Maki knocked it in for a 2-0 lead.
Kingsford took a three-goal lead when Cedric Henrickson sent a 30-foot pass to Noah Cameron, who crossed it to Moore for a 25-foot goal.
The Flivvers made it 4-0 at the break on a goal from Buckley off an assist by Moore.
Gavyn Laydon buried the last Kingsford goal, assisted by Shorkey.
“Our passing game was off the first 12 minutes but we settled down and our passes started to flow better,” Kingsford coach Jeff Gordon said. “We constantly work on one- and two-touch passes in practice.”
Iron Mountain scored its goal in the second half. No Iron Mountain information was reported.
Gordon said his team’s play in the midfield was key.
“Our midfielders stepped up by controlling the ball in the center of the field and also helped with scoring and assisting with goals,” he said. “We had five different players with goals and five different players assisting those goals (which) makes it hard for competitors to beat us.”
