KINGSFORD — After five matches had been completed between Kingsford and Iron Mountain on Thursday, the Flivvers looked to be a good bet for the team victory having built a 4-1 advantage.

However, the Mountaineers closed the day with three consecutive victories and the two rivals finished with a 4-4 draw.

“We had to win the three remaining matches to call it even on the day and we did that,” IM coach Keith Houtari said. “The Flivvers are always a solid group and there were a lot of great rallies between the two teams.”

Kingsford won the top two singles flights and the bottom two doubles flights. In singles, Gavin Moore won all 12 games against Kaden Sheldon at No. 1, while Landon Adam topped Evan Copley 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.

In doubles, the Flivvers posted quick wins from Hunter and Fletcher Hulkkonen at No. 3 (a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ben Truong and Carter Kassin) and from Brett Burglund and Beau Brackett at No. 4 (a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Lucas Kassin and Lucian Breault).

Then Iron Mountain scored three tough straight-set wins to finish the day.
